Walter Mitty (Ben Stiller) – a real loser working as a proofreader in a popular tabloid. Trying to escape from reality, Walter imagines he is a bold adventurer, fearless hero, smart, talented professional and women’s favorite. In his dreams Mitty saves the world, helps defenseless victims and unravels mysterious crimes. The hero finds topics of his exciting adventures in the articles of the magazine where he works.
But being up in the clouds, Walter Mitty gets into a scrape in real life. A photographic film is missing and it threatens to big trouble. When the adventure begins, Walter meets the mysterious beautiful stranger who is in need of his help. But Mitty quickly realizes that being a hero in real life is not so easy, especially when relatives don’t see a hero in Walter and continue to treat him as before. This will continue until Walter Mitty starts to defend his own interests.
The Secret life of Walter Mitty is a Hollywood comedy, a remake of classic movie of 1947 based on a story by James Thurber. In 1947 the first screen of the story by James Thurber became a hit, starring Danny Kaye in the title role, filmed by Norman Z. McLeod. The film script was markedly different from the original one and was masterminded by Kaye acting ability. For example, in the comedy there were several musical scenes. In addition to Kaye, “The Secret Life of Walter Mitty” showed Virginia Mayo and Boris Karloff.
In the movie of 1947 Walter Mitty was presented as the author of a comic book. At some point he meets a stranger who gives him a small book with information about the Dutch crown jewels went missing during the Second World War. James Thurber short story writer was very displeased of the first film and even wrote an open letter to the “Life” journal, but, despite this, the comedy was a success with the audience.
